We used this curriculum for my kindergartener and liked it. Book choices were fantastic:
His favorite books were the science books. We really did a lot of fun stuff with those books. We did a notebook for all his science that he covered and pictures that he drew. We watched videos and did experiments (which I added). I felt like that was lacking for a K program.
We did Sonlight Language Arts K and really liked it. He enjoyed the Explode the Code books a lot and the small phonic readers. We did not use the bingo games, Language and Thinking for for Young Children or the Picture Dictionary. I added All About Reading Level 1 for him and I thought that worked well for us along with Sonlight.
The books he enjoyed most were:
The Bereinstain Bears’ Big Book of Science and Nature
What’s Under the Sea (Usborne Science Starter book)
Is a Blue Whale the Biggest Thing There is?
How to Dig a Hole to the Other Side of the World.
Uncle Wiggily’s Story Book
The Classic Tales of Brer Rabbit
Mommy’s least faves were: Uncle Wiggily’s Story Book and Milly-Molly-Mandy.
Overall it was a fun year with Sonlight and he came out being a reader and loving books. That’s the main thing I wanted, so I’m happy. Next year’s plans for him will be on an upcoming post. We will return to Sonlight in a year or so.
